Creating An Áitiúil
An Áitiúil was born in a pub, the local, as it were. A fitting place for the beginnings of this endeavour. Working together on this project with such dear friends encapsulates so much of what we strive for in this anthology as a whole. A sense of love, joy, comfort and expression in the things, people and places that we love. Through each edition, we hope to provide our readers with the feeling that transcends the idea of individual experience in favour of the whole - that in moment of doubt, confusion and uncertainty you are never truly alone.
The Story of The Madrigal and The Martello

Before poetry, Helen's truest love will forever and always be warm, knitted things. Armed with a fondness for jumpers and a talent for knitting teddy bears, Helen (when not writing) enjoys hosting tea parties with her stuffed animals and instructing them on dinner party etiquette, all of whom are becoming as polite and well-mannered as can be! Her work deals in themes of nostalgia, mythic inspiration, and the potential of the world around her –– for more, you can follow her on twitter at @rosemaryandwool, and see her recent publications in Spellbinder, Poetically Mag, Eucalyptus & Rose, Seedling Poets, Green Ink Poetry, and the Martello Journal.

Úna is the Co-Founder and Editor in Chief of the Martello Journal. she has been writing for as long as she could hold a pencil, and occasionally forgets to be embarrassed of her work. When not reading and writing poetry, she can be found reading and writing plays, saluting magpies and harassing Jack McGee.

Jack McGee
Jack is an editor. He has been involved with An Áitiúil since it was dreamed up in a quiet public house a few years ago, and is happy to take responsibility for everything that's gone wrong since. He has no active arrest warrants, and can wiggle his ears.

Luke Hayden
In the beginning, there was nought but dusk, and chaos. now, there is excel, thank god. Luke is an aspiring & oft-dormant writer whose main association with the Madrigal and An Áitiúil stems from his sharing a house with Helen. Poetry is a true love but one that he really needs to call more lest they leave him for good this time. Wexford born, Wicklow raised, Dublin based. Coybig & coygig.

Eleanore Jenks
Eleanore Jenks is many things: writer, filmmaker, sister, and marketing person. After taking on the task of running the madrigal's website she (quite literally) jumped at the chance to make one for An Áitiúil, so here we are! While not necessarily a poet at heart, she has honed her writing skill through years of theatre reviews and has learned to appreciate a well crafted poem, even if the only things she will submit to this anthology are a few photos. She is a tremendous help, and we are very grateful!
